TRAVEL TO KOSTER

You don't need to pre-book tickets, you can buy a return ticket from the payment machine on the quay in Strömstad.

You can also pay for your ticket with a Västtrafik card or buy a ticket in the Västtrafik To Go app.

It is also possible to pay on board (card only).

All variants of "Around the Region" apply (Archipelago charging does not apply).

You can bring your own bike/kayak for an additional cost and subject to space availability.

The Koster Islands are located just outside Strömstad in northern Bohuslän. Its two islands, North and South Koster, are separated by a narrow strait where an electric cable ferry connects the islands. You can travel easily with passenger ferries from the northern port of Strömstad with several departures daily throughout the year. The crossing takes between 30-50 minutes depending on where on Koster you get off.

NOTE! During the summer months, the boats go to different piers, keep track of which pier you are going to get off at – choose the boat accordingly. Ask the staff if you are unsure.

Parking tips, click here!

You can easily get to Strömstad via the E6. There are exits from both the north, at 112 Blomsholmsmotet (from Oslo – 130km) and the south, at 111 Skee (from Gothenburg 160 km).

The city center is divided into parking zones with different time restrictions and fees. – In central Strömstad you can park for a maximum of 3 hours. – Within walking distance (about 5-15 minutes walk to Kosterbåten) you will find parking spaces from 10 hours up to 24 hours and 7 days a week.

If you visit Koster during the summer months and you want to park for longer than 24 hours, we recommend long-term parking at the entrances to Strömstad; Hålkedalen, Strömstad Gymnasium and Bojaren. 40:- / day and you can stay up to 7 days.

From here, during the summer (from mid-June to mid-August) there are free parking buses into the city center (the square where the Koster boat departs from). The buses run according to the "Hop on – Hop off" principle between 08:15 and 20:30 and stop times are about 20-40 minutes, but be there in good time as summer traffic in the city center can cause delays.

With your own boat

Perhaps the most pleasant way to get to Koster is by your own boat. Information about Koster's ports can be found here
