SNORKELING ROUTE

Snorkel in the Kosterhavet Sea

Beneath the surface of Kosterhavet National Park lies one of Sweden's most beautiful underwater landscapes. With a cyclops you can soar over meadows of swaying seaweed, swim through forests of seaweed and slide along colorful cliffs. Here you can also try one of Kosterhavet's snorkeling trails, at Rörvik just north of Ekenäs on Sydkoster.

Koster's shallow outer archipelago, at a depth of one to five meters, is a paradise for snorkeling with its variety and accessibility.

TIP! Choose a location depending on the day's wind and waves, as wind and high waves stir up bottom sediment and sand, which makes visibility worse.

Snorkeling trail;

You can find it at Rörvik beach on Sydkoster.
About 10 minutes walk to the swimming spot at Rörvik, from Ekenäs go past the village of Solkoster and follow the wide road to the sea, a child and stroller-friendly snorkeling spot with both a sandy beach and rock swimming.
A snorkel trail is a nature trail underwater and is approximately 200 meters long and lies at a depth of 1-1.5 m. A blue rope on the bottom leads you around to eight information signs that tell you about animals and plants below the surface. NOTE! From the rocks to the right of the beach it slopes out to a depth of 10 m, but boats sometimes pass by there.
Remember not to snorkel alone or at least have someone on land to keep an eye out!

Snorkeling spots with different characters on the North and South coasts;

North Coast
Björnsängen; Follow the sign for Björnsängen from Västra Bryggan to the sandy beach. Swim away on an exciting snorkeling expedition around the islands in the bay. Keep an eye out for pipefish and sea urchins among the algae. Large fish can hide in the coves along the cliff walls. Depth 1-3 m.

South Coast
Långevik; A stone's throw from the church there is a signposted gravel road to Långevik. Walk in from the rocks to the left of the beach. Rich underwater vegetation and look out for giant oysters, lots of crabs, flatfish and small hermit crabs. Depth 2-4 m.
Prästudden; From the bathing area "Blåsopp" walk south on the rocks to the southernmost cape of Sydkoster (about 200m and take it carefully on the rocks). Here there is both a small sandy beach and rock swimming. The area offers great snorkeling opportunities around all the bays. Life under the surface consists mainly of crabs, mussels and snails on the sandy bottom. Depth 1-3 m.

Have a nice trip below the surface!

TIP! The Swedish Tourist Association's yearbook for 2011 presents various trails in Sweden, including the snorkel trail in Rörvik.
